Remarks:

The Duc de Camposelice died in 1889. He was a collector, who owned 8 or 9 Stradivaris, as well as several Guarneri del Gesú. The Duc seems to have acquired his financial strength from his marriage with Mrs. Isobel Eugenie Singer, the widow of the sewing-machine maker.

Remarks:

The Knoop family originally stemmed from western Germany. One of its members - Johann Ludwig Knoop, the father of Baron Knoop - emigrated to Russia and founded in Narva - now in Esthonia - one of the country's most important textile manufacturing industries at that time. The factory employed about 12,000 workers. In recognition of his great pioneering labor he was rewarded with the title "Baron", which according to Russian custom of that time, passed to his 3 sons.
